Just a little update
Just a little update
Well, a lot actually. I have had to take even more time off from Jeremy due to a lot of personal stuff. That seems to happen a lot, doesn’t it? I also applied for a part time job working for an apartment community that I hope I get. It won’t take time away from writing, but everything else in my life seems to. I know I make a bunch of excuses and whine about it, but I do appreciate those of you who are sticking with me. Vlog coming soon!
The dreaded Chapter 6 is done! Woohoo!!
This has been so surreal to see. The cover is being done by Skylar Faith/ truenotdreams.weebly.com, and I am eternally grateful.
I have to start getting ready for work soon but I got my ass up early and actually wrote a chapter. Sadly, I see this being my routine. I say ‘sadly’ because I like my sleep. However, I wanted to give you guys a little sneak peek! The titles of the first 16 chapters!! There is one that I am not a fan of, and some of them might be changed but I thought you guys might appreciate this. If you have any suggestions for changes or ideas for upcoming chapter titles, feel free to comment!
Chapter 1- The Playboy at the Party
Chapter 2- The Girl with the Same Death Right
Chapter 3- The Belle at the Ball
Chapter 4- The Vampire with the Distraction
Chapter 5- The Vampire on the First Date
Chapter 6- The Nightmare and the Change
Chapter 7- The Deceit in the Bodega
Chapter 8- The Heartbreak and the Idea
Chapter 9- The Truth in the Lie
Chapter 10- The Blond and the Advice
Chapter 11- The Invitation and the Balcony
Chapter 12- The Glow and the Matress
Chapter 13- The Family and the Move
Chapter 14- The Socialite and the Factory
Chapter 15- The Ex-Girlfriend and the Stakeout
Chapter 16- The Vampires and the Mission
I hope that you guys like the titles and I want to know if you have any guesses about what is going on in the story just by what the titles are. The first person to guess all 16 correctly, I will give you an acknowledgment in the book. Just comment with your answers and your Twitter or Facebook handle and I will message you if you got it right! Good luck!!
“Do you miss being human?”
She was obviously not expecting the question. I know it seemed odd, but I wanted to know if I was the only one. She frowned again and sighed.
“I think so,” she crossed her arms. “I mean, look at me. This is the most freedom I’ve had in weeks. My body is still back in that holding cell, strapped to that table.”
“I’m sorry,” I nudged her. “I can’t even imagine what you’re going through. I thought being left in a building was bad enough.”
“It’s okay, I mean, I know you’re coming for me,” she forced a smile.
I nodded. I was working very hard to get to her. I couldn’t leave the only other Night Touched down in a hole to rot. I put my arm around her shoulders in a side hug as we rode the rest of the way. It was a small comfort but I wasn’t sure what else to do.
Finally the subway came to a stop and the doors opened. Celine stood up and motioned for me to follow her. We stepped back out on to the same platform we had left from. I looked at her, confused.
“Um, I don’t understand.” I cocked an eyebrow as she shrugged.
“Your guess is as good as mine.”
At that moment, the subway took off, stranding us on the platform. We exchanged an even more confused look as we climbed the stairs back to the tunnel. Celine walked closer to me, unsure of what we might see at the end of the tunnel. When we got back to the lobby, it was definitely not the same place we had left from. There were large chunks blown out of the walls, the windows were broken, and I could hear a huge fight going on outside.
“What the hell happened?!” I looked over at Celine.
“Harper!” Silas appeared at the top of the stair case, his clothes ripped and blood drying in his hair and in patches down the front of him. He jumped over the side, landing skillfully on the granite flooring below.
“Silas, thank God!” I exhaled in relief. Then it hit me. “What are you doing here?”
“Harper,” Celine tugged on my arm. “I think we should run now.”
I brushed her off. “Silas, what is going on here?”
He smiled darkly, pulling out a stake from his pocket. My eyes widened in horror as he ran for me, the stake poised to strike me down. Celine pulled at my arm, trying to get me to run with her. She screamed as Silas landed in front of us. He reached out and grabbed me.
“Forever, darling?” He asked as he plunged the stake into my heart.
An excerpt from the newest chapter. I hope you guys are on edge!
I just finished Chapter 13, and I am finally starting to get back into the swing of everything again! I know I flaked on the vlog for Sunday but it looks like this one is going to have to be a Monday vlog as well. I am alternating between adding to previous chapter and writing new ones. Don’t mistake adding to previous chapters as editing because I’m not editing yet. I am worried that I am about to start Chapter 14 and my book only has 24k. I was doing some research and the average Urban Fantasy novel is about 90k and my favorite author, Cassandra Clare, has been quoted as saying her first drafts average at 130k. I am starting to worry about content and length of this book. I have to say, though, that I am going to do the best I can, and like Tori and I have been saying, that is what editing is for. We will be able to take stuff out, put stuff in, and move it around. Trying not to worry too much about it. Now to try to go to sleep again.
I am having a hard time writing Chapter 12. Partially due to writers block, partially because my word count is extremely low for the number of chapters I have. Since I can’t think of what needs to go on now, I am going back and changing some stuff in previous chapters. Mind you, it’s not editing, I am still going to go back once the book is done and actually edit but I feel like I could have said a lot more in a few of these chapters.
