The Just, Girl Project- A Special Blog Spot

Every once in a while, I am approached with some amazing opportunities. Whether it be reviewing a musical artist or talking about something that I am passionate about. For the past two years I have been able to achieve several goals in my life and it is because of all of you amazing people that those things have happened for me. Today is one of those days where I get to share something that I feel has an inspiring message.

The Just, Girl project was started by Ilana Harkavy, a singer-songwriter out of California. She has just released her first EP and it is a small collection of songs written to help empower young women. She was inspired to create her album after stumbling across groups on Facebook and other social media sites promoting things from eating disorders to self-harm. The idea of those kinds of groups were not-only heartbreaking to her, but disturbingly relatable. She decided to take her skills as a singer and songwriter and put them to good use.

Ilana is currently running an Indiegogo campaign to help her raise money to that she can share her message with young girls everywhere. I was approached to share her message and campaign and I couldn’t turn it down. I feel that women everywhere deserve to feel good about themselves. You can check out more about Ilana and the Just, Girl Project by clicking here.

WIP Blog Hop

I was recently nominated for the Work in Progress Blog Hop by Tricia Drammeh, author of  the newly released Better than Perfect. This hop requires that I answer seven questions about my current work in progress, and link back to the person that nominated me.

Jeremy - eBook Cover

Let’s get to it!

1.What is the name of your character? Is he/she fictional or a historic person?

Harper is a fictional character. The Night Touched that she is searching for in this novel is named Jeremy, he is also fictional.

2) When and where is the story set?

Jeremy is based in present day New Orleans.

3) What should we know about him/her?

Harper is still dealing with the fall out of New York. She is feeling a bit more angst in this book than in Celine, trying to deal with the break up with Silas and how they left New York. Without giving too much away, of course.

4) What is the main conflict? What messes up his/her life?

The main conflict in the story really is getting Father Jeremy to join their cause. I would say there is a lot in her life that’s messed up at this point so… yeah.

5) What is the personal goal of the character?

The personal goal for Harper really is to move on from her feelings about Silas and taking down the Slayers

6) Is there a working title for this novel, and can we read more about it?

The Night Touched Chronicles Book Two: Jeremy

7) When can we expect the book to be published?

That’s a good question. I have absolutely no clue. I’m shooting for the end of the year, but it just depends on when it comes to me.

Jo's Random Book Reviews

Admittedly, it’s been awhile since I picked up a vampire book. Twilight had it’s good points, but how many copy-cats does a person want to read? Thank goodness, Celine is NOT just another Twilight clone. The vampires hearken back to the old days, when they were still creatures of the night who unapologetic-ally drank blood and kicked butt – when they need to.

Harper is a Night Touch, a special breed of vampire, and she’s the only one – or so she thought. When she starts to have visions of a second Night Touched named Celine, she immediately wants to find her, but here’s only one problem: Celine has been taken prisoner by the Slayers, a group of humans whose sole purpose is to wipe vampires from the face of the Earth.

They can’t just go rushing in. Though vampires may be immortal, they can die, and if there are…

Spotlight on “Out and About: My Mother’s Story” by director/ writer Nicholas James Dodd

I worked with Nick earlier this year in a campaign for my previous call center company. We talked a lot about our dreams, our lives and what mattered the most to us. I have to say from those few weeks of getting to know Nick, I learned that he is a very driven and thoughtful guy who really loves his family. Nick talked a lot about his wife and child, but he also talked a lot about how much he admired his mom. See, his mom is a lesbian and had to go through a lot before accepting who she was and was able to come out and finally be okay with who she is. Recently, Nick’s mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. Since then, he has decided to embark on a journey to create a documentary highlighting her life and her struggles. I asked Nick what really inspired this idea and he very simply put “…I would say that telling the story of my family’s endeavors(with my mom being the focus of course), I have wanted to share the story through this means for a couple of years now. It is with her recent diagnosis that made me want to do it even more, and with seeing how sick she has become VERY recently, it made me want to do whatever was necesary to make it happen.”

Here is the video Nick posted on indiegogo.

Come on, people! There are only 43 days left to get this project funded. Every dollar helps.
